Astrology – review and tendencies

Astrology – the word is derived from Latin “astrologia” which stands for “astronomy” i.e. the field of science that observes and studies celestial bodies. Astronomy dates back 5 thousand years. Its first manifestations are found in the Hinduistic backstone religious work, namely the Vedas. In the course of development of scientific realm there emerged two disciplines: astronomy and astrology. Many people maintained that only “Astronomy” is a science whereas “Astrology” is nothing but a superstition and pseudo-science. Nevertheless, astrology kept persisted in its right to exist and gradually became permitted even in some educational establishments. But, the U.S. National Science Board said in its 2006 report that it does not recognize astrology as a branch of cognitive science and terms it nothing but a “pseudo-science”.

Now it more tends to being regarded as a scientific branch of the celestial studies. The person who deals with the study is known as an “astrologer”. Astrology encompasses a number of traditions, system of believes and interpretation of celestial objects and draws parallels to the past, present, and future events on Earth, political and economic developments, human behavior, emotionality, health, character and much more. Astrologers insist that in their scientific conduct a key role plays the http://multitran.ru/c/m.exe?a=110&t=4665817_2_1&sc=0expanded awareness and ability to apprehend divine signs. In ancient times astrologers observed the cosmic processes through a telescope. Modern astrologers use the information derived from astronomic surveys and adopt it to their systems accordingly.

The objects of astrological studies are as follows: the stars, the planets, the Moon and the lunar nodes, and any obscure spots in the cosmos. The cellular bodies are reviewed as in constant motion and in their correlation to the axis. The stars are considered by astronauts separately or in relation to each other when they form groups, the so-called “constellations”. In its turn every constellation refers to one of the twelve signs of the zodiac: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer (or Crab), Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. The Zodiac in astrology means a diagram (traditionally circular) with the zodiacal constellations drawn on it and specifying their signs which are either existing beings and things or imaginary. This diagram is also known as horoscope. Whereas in astronomy the zodiac diagram by means of the constellations depicts the solar annual movement path including the planets and the Moon.

Most of the cultures have their own long-standing astrological traditions and they may slightly vary from each other in terms of doctrines and interpretations. However, the major present-day astrological schools come from Hindu (Jyotisa), Western, and Chinese tradition. Among other civilizations where astrology was extensively practiced is Babylon, Egypt, Persia, Arab countries, Ancient Greece, and Maya.

The Western civilization fell under a strong astrological influence in middle ages. Now people worldwide are affected by horoscopes it which in most cases is nothing but superstition. For many people the first thing in the morning is to check the horoscope prediction. Psychologists say that once a person reads the day is good or bad he or she at once becomes affected and programmed by the received information. Eventually the day will turn out “good” or “bad”. Many people have paranoia and do nothing unless receive an “O.K.” from an astrologist. In the end it leads to stresses and deprives a person of his / her individual emotional independence.
